For many women, it’s easy to forge a sense of style in their youth. Clothes on the racks are designed for young female bodies and trying out the latest trend – whether it be flared jeans, platform heels or mini-skirts – is fun and expected. As we age, however, it becomes more difficult to find stylish on-trend clothes that enhance our changing figures rather than give the impression of mutton dressed as lamb
When looking for style inspiration, we set our sights on 10 fashion-forward women who we believe reign supreme. From Helen Mirren and her timeless red carpet looks to Diane Keaton and her quirky hats and androgynous style, these are the most fashionable mature celebrities this year.
Let’s take a peek at some of their best looks this 2022.
Helen Mirren, 77
In March of this year, the 77-year-old actress stole the show at the 28th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, arriving at the honourable event looking stunning.
The actress donned a stunningly classic pink gown, tailored flatteringly at the waist and embellished with delicate metallic flowers placed on her left shoulder and the right side of her waist. Mirren accessorised the understated outfit with a matching pink headband, sparkling drop earrings, a pink clutch and mask, and of course, eye-catching pink lipstick.
Mirren then rocked the fashion world once again when she arrived at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival looking undeniably exquisite in head-to-toe platinum.
Jamie Lee Curtis, 64
When it comes to cool, chic looks actress Jamie Lee Curtis nails the criteria every time. Appearing at the red carpet premiere for Knives out: Glass Onion, Curtis oozed effortless, red carpet class in this black monochrome look.
The 64-year-old actress was dressed in a Ralph Lauren button-down which she tucked into her very fashion-forward charcoal grey slacks. She completed her look with black Valentino stilettos and silver aviator-style glasses from Ray-Ban.
Jane Fonda, 85
At 85 years old, Jane Fonda has been a style icon for decades. Her red carpet looks have arguably gotten better through the years, but outside the glitz and glam of Hollywood Fonda absolutely stuns with her activism outfits.
Earlier in December, Fonda hosted her first in-person Fire Drill Friday climate change protest in over three years, and her debut look did not disappoint– appearing in DC wearing head-to-toe fire-truck red.
As in previous years, Fonda rocked another bold red look to her climate protest. Her red coat perfectly matched her red fedora and red lipstick. For accessories, she wore black gloves and a black scarf.
Diane Keaton, 76
When it comes to getting “suited up” no one does it better than Diane Keaton. Since her career took off in the ’70s, the 76-year-old has proven time and time again that her style is a league of her own.
Keaton is a master at pairing unique and timeless looks, becoming one of the pioneers of Hollywood androgynous style. We love how Keaton only sticks to neutral colours like black, white, beige, and grey while keeping this minimal. It’s hard to choose which of Keaton’s looks this year is our favourite, but we think her JCrew outfit takes the cake.
What’s not to love from this outfit? From her midnight blue pleather trench coat to her chunky heeled boots and suede bowler hat, this is arguably one of Keaton’s top looks.
Susan Sarandon, 76
Whether it’s on-screen or off-screen Susan Sarandon captives us. But it’s not just her aura that demands attention it’s her cool and comfortable outfits that we can’t get enough of. When it comes to her style, Susan Sarandon embodies the concept of “less is more” and can be often spotted wearing a pair of casual jeans and a sleek blazer.
This year, we especially loved this sequence blazer with white pipping that she wears over a simple black t-shirt and well-fitted dark jeans.
Kerri-Anne Kennerley, 68
If there’s anyone who knows how to rock red carpet glamour, it was Logie Hall of Famer, Kerri-Anne Kennerley.
In June of this year, the 68-year-old had all eyes on her as she arrived at the 2022 Logie Awards dressed in a jaw-dropping all-white, mermaid-style gown. While the dress itself covered her décolletage, it hugged her curves in all the right places. The overall was minimalistic but featured dramatic sleeves, which swept the floor with its white featured trimming.
