Helena Christensen recently told us that, in some ways, she sees herself as a completely different person to the young woman who started modelling as a teen (she famously won the Miss Copenhagen competition, after thinking it was a charity fashion show, aged 16). The fast pace of her twenties, when she moved to Paris and climbed up the fashion ranks alongside Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, are a distant memory for Christensen, who now prioritises wild swimming over wild nights with Gianni Versace (the man who said she had “the most beautiful body in the world”, after she starred in his 1994 campaign.)
Still, Helena has not forgotten the transformative qualities of fashion and beauty. Now, when staging her Signature nature shoots in her Catskills home, she’s got a new accessory to play with: a mussed-up bob. Christensen introduced us to her fresh hairstyle via Instagram with three words, “It felt good”. With her bright green eyes and freckle-dappled skin, it looked good too.

Showing that a change is as good as a rest, Helena, defying her 53 years, demonstrated that a hair transformation is a great idea at any age – especially one as dramatic as her long to short chop. Proof came via the comments section as Christy Turlington chimed in with, “Love”, Karen Elson said, “Looks gorgeous”, and Erin O’Connor frontloaded the heart emojis.
The most meaningful comment came from fellow model Yasmeen Ghauri, who posted, “Gorgeous! Though you’re gorgeous any which way.” Christensen’s deliciously shaggy crop is just the cherry on top of the cake – and all the better for detangling after those cold-water sessions.
