The Great Ocean Road

Thrive50plus.com is delighted and excited to introduce you to an extraordinary talented Australian artist — Greg Mallyon. He is much more than just a painter and printmaker who works from his studio in rural Victoria Australia. He takes his inspiration from the aerial perspectives of the abstract topographical landscape below.

His work has bought him both national and international acclaim. He was selected as winner of the Landscape category of the inaugural 2021 NATIONAL CAPITAL ART PRIZE, announced in an award ceremony in Canberra late last year.

In a special one-off opportunity, Thrive50plus.com is offering one of our lucky readers the opportunity of winning an original Greg Mallyon landscape painting. This is by far the biggest prize and promotional activity we at the magazine have ever undertaken. But more about this a little later in this story.

What Inspires Greg Mallyon?

His life story is truly as rich as it is fascinating. It includes constant travel and a rich exposure to European, Asian, Middle Eastern as well as our own Indigenous cultures.

His early career began with his first solo exhibition in Provence, France. It was followed by a group exhibition in Rome, a touring exhibition in Hamburg, Dortmund and Wurtzburg, Germany and a solo exhibition in Zagreb, Croatia. This international exposure and success led to interest within the Australian art world. Representation followed with the prestigious Raya Gallery in Melbourne, culminating in four sell out exhibitions, corporate commissions, TV and newspaper interviews — a flying start for any young artist.

Over the succeeding years Greg has held over 38 solo exhibitions throughout Australian capital cities. He has also exhibited in Singapore and Honolulu. His work has taken him to participating in over 70 group exhibitions in locations including Barcelona, Venice, Taipei, Melbourne University, The National Gallery of Victoria and Next Wave Festival, Melbourne. Greg has also been represented in 10 international art fairs in Hong Kong, Singapore, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. In 2020 he was to embark on a debut in New York and a major mural commission in Melbourne… but a pandemic got in the way!

But I suppose most importantly, he’s just a hell of a nice bloke.

Did I mention that his work has appeared on TV and movie sets and been commissioned or acquired by major corporations, universities, government departments and luxury hotels?
