Without question the single most extraordinary sight I have ever seen anywhere in the world is Victoria Falls.
Spanning the width of the Zambezi River—more than a mile across—this legendary waterfall cascades over the lip of a large plateau of volcanic rock and plunges as much as 354 feet.
When you enter the park and walk around the winding track, there is constant roaring sound together with what appears to be light rain or mist all round. The foliage around the track is lush and bountiful. As you come around a bend you’re confronted by an over-sized sculpture of Dr Livingstone it is like everything in this park ‘it’s confronting’. It is impressive. A little further around the track there are the falls in all the splendour. It is a site that I will never forget. The sensory overload when you first come upon them is breathtaking. The might of nature, the fall of the water, spray from the base that rises and falls over the park, it is like nothing you could experience anywhere else in the world. One of the young guides told me that the locals call them ‘the smoke that thunders”. Having gone so far as travelling around and exploring South Africa you owe it to yourself to not miss out on this life changing experience.
